Simple and Guaranteed Search Engine Optimization

Getting your website ranked at the top of the search engine heap can seem like a difficult and time consuming process. With millions of websites competing for placement, it may seem futile to try to top the crowd. But, there are some simple techniques that will get your website in front of your audience and it does not take too much time.

A search engine is a special application indexes other websites on the internet and has a website for searching sites based on the words “search terms” that users enter. Search engines look through their own databases of information in order to find pages that match criteria. Search engines automatically create web site listings by using spiders that "crawl" web pages, index their information, and optimally follows that site's links to other pages.

A directory is a little different in that directories have categories of information and website owners and people that frequent particular sites submit the website address to the directory page within the appropriate category.

In order to get a website ranked the site must be modified to help search engines index as efficiently as possible.

Word Density

Pages should contain 300 to 700 words of unique and descriptive content. A page's meta tag keywords should also be those that occur most frequently on the page.

Heading Content

Title, description and keywords are page heading elements that help search engines understand the content on the pages.

Title Tags

Well-constructed title tags contain the main keyword for the page, followed by a brief description of the page content. It will be less than 65 characters and avoid using stop words such as: a, if, the, then, and, an, to, etc. Your title tag should also be limited to the use of alphanumeric characters, hyphens, and commas. See example below.

Description Tags

Good description tags contain information about the page's content and persuade search engine users to visit your web site. They should be between 25 and 35 words in length. See example below. Define keywords Keywords can help search engines understand the content on each page of a website. Keywords should accurately describe page content. See example below. Example of a well defined header section for search engine visibility.

<head id="Head1"> <title>Instant Internet Services</title> <meta content="Instant Internet Services creates professional, high quality websites and web applications. Hosting, email and eMarketing are also available." name="description"> <meta content="Website Design,Website Hosting,Click To Call,Email Accounts,Hosted Exchange,eMarketing,Website Visibility,Page Rank,Domain Registration,Domain Transfers,SSL Certificates,Dedicated Hosting,Site Analytics,Click to Chat,ECommerce,Shopping Cart" name="keywords"> </head>

Proper Navigation

Ensure that there are no broken links and make sure all of the links have descriptive titles since they are used by the search engine spiders to navigate the site and make sense of the content.

Sitemap

Site maps can improve search engine optimization of a site by ensuring that all the pages on a website can be located. This is especially important if a site uses a content created with graphics or Adobe Flash that do not include HTML links. Example of a sitemap xml file (Sitemap.xml) in the root directory of the website.

<?xml encoding="UTF-8" version="1.0" ?> <urlset xmlns="http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap/0.84"> <url> <loc>http://www.instantinternetservices.com/</loc> <lastmod>2009-07-09</lastmod> <changefreq>daily</changefreq> <priority>1</priority> </url> <url> <loc>http://www.instantinternetservices.com/contactus.aspx</loc> <lastmod>2009-07-09</lastmod> <changefreq>daily</changefreq> <priority>1</priority> </url> <url> <loc>http://www.instantinternetservices.com/WebDesign.aspx</loc> <lastmod>2009-07-09</lastmod> <changefreq>daily</changefreq> <priority>1</priority> </url> </urlset>

Submit the Site

Using an automated search engine submission service can save a great deal of time and energy. Initially, the site should be submitted to the major search engines such as Google and Yahoo manually. There are “Submit a Site” and “Submit a URL” links and instructions on each of the search engine and directory pages. Each site has its own rules for submission, so manually processing the first entry is a good idea. After that, there is some value in resubmitting the site from time to time as content changes. That’s where automatic search engine submission sites come in handy. Cost and results vary, but they can be helpful in keeping your site ranked.

Control Crawling

It's important that search engine spiders find your robots.txt file that guides spiders to pages and directories you want crawled and denies entry to protected areas of your site. A robots.txt file should be added to your home directory since the search engine spiders will look there for the file. For more information about setting up and formatting the robots.txt file, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robots.txt.

Outside Links

One of the keys to getting a site ranked high by search engines is by getting other sites to link back to your site. There are several ways to go about this such as reciprocal link site, but the most productive linking you can get is from site with high page rank and for customer sites with testimonials or other references to your site.

Relevant Content

Keep the website content current, fresh and up to date. News, articles and product information that changes frequently should be posted often so that the relevancy of the information is considered higher than content that has never changed.
